Oil as a Foreign Policy Mechanism

Posted on Sunday 21 August 2005

If you’re interested in US foreign policy, you’d be hard pressed to find a consistently better and more thought-provoking writer than Fareed Zakaria. Here’s his latest article where he looks at how the US energy policy is an essential component of an effective foreign policy. Of course, as this article points out, a meaningful energy policy has been promised, yet never delivered, by every president in the past 30 years.

Zakaria’s book, The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad is a great read if you’re interested in international politics. You can also check out counterpoints to his book here and here.
