So, one of my colleagues has to send in an electronic copy of a document to the US immigration office. Of course, one would expect to be able to send a document in either MS Word or PDF format, right? Well, not the US government, the beacon of efficiency that it is. Turns out you have to convert the multipage document to JPEG before sending it. Even if you’re computer savvy, it’s not trivial to figure out how to do this. How on earth they expect people with less of a technical background to do this, I have no idea. And the bigger question is, why, when like 99.99% of the business world accepts either Word or PDF formats (or, at the very least, ASCII or HTML).
