Free WiFi for San Francisco

Posted on Tuesday 20 September 2005

Evidently, Google has started offering free WiFi to the San Francisco area. It’ll be interesting to see what their strategy is in this and how expansive they plan to make this service. The competition of free WiFi definitely couldn’t hurt in bringing down broadband prices.

Once again, beware! Beware of the seductive word “free,” and beware of the non-paternalistic motives of GOOGLE. How much information will GOOGLE “process” under the guise of “free Wi-Fi?” Remember, there is no such thing as a free ________ (fill in the blank).

I’m sure all the broadband companies charging $40/month are “processing” our information as well…if it’s going to be done anyway, I’d rather be paying $0/month.
