September 20, 1:00pm local time
Yesterday after shopping I went back to my room to relax and take a quick nap. Although, my nap pretty much turned into a whole night of sleep. I woke up around 9:00pm, decided I wasn’t hungry enough to go downstairs for food, and just went back to bed for the night.
I woke up around 5:00am this morning and just hung around the room until about 6:30am when the breakfast buffet started. After breakfast I went out by the pool until about 11:00am. It was nice to just sit out there and relax even though the sun wasn’t shining. The pool boy was nice though and brought me towels for my chair, and made sure I always had a glass of water. Also, when it started raining he came over to open my umbrella.
I stayed out there until I finished reading the 3rd Harry Potter book. Now I can start on the 4th book for my trip home.
I did take a quick dip in the pool before I came inside, but it was kind of chilly since it had been raining off and on all day. I had a shower and then decided to come down and check email.
Email checking is one of my favorite parts of the day because that’s the only way I’m connected to everyone at home right now. However, today when I checked my mail I had gotten news of really bad things that have happened to two of my friends. I don’t want to go into details as I know they are both suffering badly at this time, but my heart just completely breaks for them.
On another note, one thing that really stands out about the Philippines is the security. Everywhere you go (including all over the shopping mall) are armed police man. Makes you feel a little safe and a little scared all at the same time if you know what I mean.
Tonight is the MBA fair and then tomorrow morning I’m headed to Bangkok. Only a couple of more days before I’m headed home, yay! I can’t wait to see Matt!

I remember that shock of seeing armed soldiers everywhere when I went to Ecuador. It’s probably not near as extensive as the security in Manila, but especially around the banks, I remember that they’d have soldiers in camos carrying a machine gun.
