Leigh Ann’s Trip Journal: Entry #7

Wednesday, September 21, 2:22pm local time

After checking my email yesterday, I went back to my hotel for a time of prayer and reading my Bible. My heart was so sad for my friends going through difficult times, and I knew spending some quiet time with God was the best thing to do.

After that I started getting ready for the evening fair. I went down and had some spaghetti in the hotel restaurant and then went to the fair until 9:00pm. I got a chance to meet some more of the representatives traveling with other schools which was nice…one is even a fellow Clemson alumni! Go Tigers!

After the fair I went to my room and straight to bed. For some reason I woke up around 3:30am and felt wide awake. I finally went back to sleep about an hour later and then my alarm went off at 5:45. I got up, got ready, and packed my bags to head to the airport. I also made a trip to the breakfast buffet.

I arrived at the airport around 8:00am. I must say that out of all the airports I’ve been to, this one was quite strange. I thought I’d seen it all after being to India, but this one managed to throw me a few surprises. First of all, after checking in I had to pay a $10 “terminal fee” before I could pass through security and on to my gate. Also, apparently you have to answer the questions “How old are you?” and “Are you single?” about 1000 times before you’re allowed to board the plane. Every single male airport person I passed by asked me these questions. While waiting I met another girl traveling with the MBA tour and so we sat and talked while waiting for our plane which was very nice. I was hoping maybe we could hang out this afternoon, but she had another work event to attend tonight.

My flight was pretty strange too, just like the airport. It was a somewhat bumpy ride (turbulence scares me!), and just before take off all this steamy stuff starting coming out of the air vents. It really freaked me out, like we were being poisoned or something, but no one else seemed to notice so I just figured it was normal. So future warning, if you ever see steamy stuff filling the inside of your airplane, it’s okay! ;)

I was happy that the seat next to me was empty and I was all leaned over nice and comfortable watching The Longest Yard when some rather hefty sized fellow came and sat in the empty seat which forced me to move over. Apparently he couldn’t get to his laptop good enough in is own seat since he belly was too big. I don’t know what was special about the seat next to me, but it was kind of annoying.

Three hours later we arrived safely in Bangkok. Much to my delight when waiting in line at immigration someone behind me asked if I was traveling with the MBA fair. She was also doing the same thing and she asked if I would want to join her and another lady on a trip to the night market this evening. I was very excited! I have heard great things about the market and wanted to try it out but I didn’t want to go alone. I’m really looking forward to tonight! Bangkok is pretty cool so far….they have some cool looking buildings, including one that looks like a giant letter M. Oh, and I saw another billboard on the way in that says H.I.S. :) I think that’s it for now. More updates tomorrow.
