Pelosi More Fiscally Conservative Than Republicans?

Posted on Saturday 24 September 2005

Here’s another good article about government spending in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Will Congress ever come to a realization that sacrifice may be necessary to prioritize spending?

When Americans give their money, they give from what they have and they do with a little less. Those donating do not intend for their children or grandchildren to foot their bill. They are giving on behalf of themselves – it is an individual sacrifice to help their fellow Americans.

Now the question is: Is Congress willing to make similar sacrifices?

Do the politicians believe that it is moral to place the largest tax burden in America’s history on the next generation so that the current generations never have to face the reality of controlling government spending?

According to budget analyst Brian Riedl of The Heritage Foundation, it is enough to “dump the largest debt in world history into the laps of the next generation. Within a decade, tax increases would need to reach $7,000 per household (a 37 percent tax hike) just to balance the budget.”

“Is Nancy Pelosi the best fiscal conservative this Congress has to offer?” She seems to have Tom Delay beat hands down.

Bloggers, too have latched onto this theme. A coalition of bloggers have launched a website called “porkbusters.” The site lists every member of the House and Senate by the name and has a column next to the name for “committed cuts,” or sacrifices. Currently, the only member of Congress listed with a “committed cut” is House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Many Republican members of Congress must be asking themselves, “Is Nancy Pelosi the best fiscal conservative this Congress has to offer?”
