Mirror in the Sky

So the title really doesn’t have anything to do with this post, but Stevie Nicks is singing “Landslides” (my favorite) on the Ellen show right now and I thought those lyrics sounded like a cool blog title. :)

The past couple of weeks have actually been fairly busy for us. I think it has hit me that there are only 17 weeks left until Kaelyn’s due date. If the next 17 pass as fast as the past 23 weeks have, then she will be here by the time I blink. In light of that realization, I’ve been on a big kick to get work done in the nursery. We’ve been looking at paint samples (which is very confusing by the way…how many shades of green can there really be?) and hopefully we’ll have the room painted by the end of this week. My parents are visiting this weekend, so Dad and Matt will probably work on the painting. :) We also want to hang some crown molding in the nursery, but I’m not sure if we’ll have time for that this weekend. We are also planning to do our registries at Target and Babies R Us very soon, and we’re starting to look at picking out a pediatrician for Kaelyn. And of course, we still need to decide on a middle name (thanks for all the suggestions!).

In other news, it’s been a very physically active week around here…last weekend Matt’s cousin, Jon, came over from Charlotte to stay with us. Jon is a cyclist and he rode in a couple of races around Raleigh over the weekend. Last Saturday Matt ran in a 10K race with the Town of Cary and I volunteered to work at the race registration table. We had to get up at 5:30am on a Saturday morning, but other than that it was a fun time. Matt also played a pick-up game of Ultimate this weekend for a couple of hours. It was 85 degrees and sunny…beautiful weather! We would have never gotten Ultimate weather like that in Champaign until at least June. :)

This past Saturday I taught my first Babysitter Training class with the Red Cross. I had 15 students ranging from 5th-7th graders…6 boys and 9 girls. I think it went pretty well. I was a little worried at first because several of the boys said they were only there because their moms made them, but after a few minutes they started getting into it. The boys actually ended up being the ones who wanted to volunteer the most for all of the activities.

We’ve also been keeping busy with other things like babysitting, doing yard work, buying and selling on craigslist :) , and doctor’s appointments. We’ve managed to fit in a few movies in the evenings as well. We used to get all of our DVDs for free from the library in Champaign – they had a great selection of new and old movies as well as TV shows. But here in NC, the public libraries don’t have any movies at all! Matt was very disappointed about this, but we recently discovered something cool that made him feel better…Redbox. Redbox is basically like a vending machine for DVDs and it only cost $1 per night. Even better, you can find lots of coupon codes online to get them for free. This is much better than the $4 per movie rental fee at Blockbuster. Our local Redbox is located right inside the front door of a Harris Teeter grocery store. You can look online to see if there is a Redbox near you…apparently they are located in places such as grocery stores, Wal-Marts, and McDonald’s. Here are some movies we’ve rented from Redbox in the past few weeks: Children of Men, The Good Shepard, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Rocky Balboa, The Last King of Scotland.

Have a great week! :)

I’m happy about your first Red Cross teaching experience! Mine is May 10, with First Aid.

About Redbox, have you ever tried NetFlix? Mel uses that most of the time for us.

We do the Blockbuster in the mail thing. It is oly $10 a month and it is pretty unlimited. Most weeks we get to watch 2-3 movies if we are on the ball with returning them. :)

Children of Men and The Good Shepard are both on my watch list. Did you like both?

I thought Children of Men was pretty good. The Good Shepard wasn’t necessarily bad, but it’s over 2 1/2 hours and at the end you don’t really feel like it was the best use of your time.
